Volunteer Spotlight - Michelle Tate
Today, we shine the spotlight on Michelle Tate!
Michelle has been a volunteer with MarineParents since August 2020. She holds the following positions with MarineParents.
Group Leader Poolee Group
Group Leader SOI MCT East
Group Guide for 1st Battalion Bravo Company San Diego, SOI MCT West, and MOS
Community Relations Presenter Region 3 Texas
We asked Michelle to share her personal experience as a volunteer:
"When my Marine left for Boot Camp I had been part of the Poolee group and I had received so much support and information and encouragement from that group that I realized I wanted to be able to pay it forward and to give back to the organization. Having looked at every group available after my son decided to enlist I found that by far Marine Parents provided the most supportive and educational community. I felt like I had truly found my family."
What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with MarineParents?
"Volunteering with Marine Parents is such an overwhelmingly amazing experience it's hard to put into words. Being part of the organization has allowed me to connect with so many wonderful people all over the country and it's also made me feel connected to my Marine. Being a Marine Mom is tough at times. We go for a long time without being able to hug our children and being able to volunteer and give back by sharing my experiences helps me feel like I am still right there with him. The organization is so dedicated to helping Marines and their families and if I can help in any way I feel like I'm serving those who serve our nation."
What would you say to someone who is interested in volunteering?
"To anyone who is considering becoming a volunteer I would say 100% do it! The past year that I have been volunteering with Marine Parents has been fantastic. There have been so many people that have cheered for me and been able to relate on the down days and we've been able to encourage and laugh and just create a bond with each other that is unlike any group that you will ever find. Volunteering is fun and exciting and I'm always learning something new!"
With 380 volunteer hours since August 2020, we thank Michelle for her time and dedication to the members of our MarineParents groups! OOH-RAH!! MarineParents could not do what we do without our amazing volunteers!
