Volunteer Spotlight - Carolyn Williams

Today we shine the spotlight on Carolyn Williams!

Carolyn has been a volunteer with Marine Parents since May 2019. Carolyn is currently the Group Leader for Fleet PDS Camp Lejeune/New River, Assistant Group Leader for 1st Battalion Alpha Company Parris Island, and Group Guide for 3rd Battalion India Company Parris Island.

We asked Carolyn to share a bit of her personal experience:

Why did you decide to volunteer with MarineParents?

"I couldn't bring myself to leave the boot camp page even after my son graduated. This was my first experience with the military and all of the volunteers were so amazing and I felt such a strong connection - I didn't want to lose that! I would chime in from time to time and was eventually asked if I wanted to volunteer and without hesitation I said yes! Best decision ever!"

What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with MarineParents?

"I love when the new Recruit cycle starts and I remember having all of the same questions and feelings that the parents and family members have and it brings me right back to when my son shipped to PI. Fast forward to the Crucible and the family members have grown right along with their Recruits and are so positive and encouraging. Then the icing on the cake is when they thank us for helping them through the journey of boot camp. It is truly a treasure to be able to pay it forward and help the families like I was helped while my son was experiencing boot camp."

What would you say to someone who is interested in volunteering?

"If you are even remotely interested in volunteering, just see what is involved and if it resonates with you - DO IT! I promise you won't regret it!!"

With over 390 volunteer hours since May 2019, we thank Carolyn for her dedication to the members of our MarineParents groups! OOH-RAH!! MarineParents could not do this without our amazing volunteers!
