Amy (Amy Laptad) from Reston, Virginia, VA
Marine
and
Amy lives in Reston, Virginia, just 25 miles west of Washington, DC. She has three grown
children: two daughters and a son, who recently became a U.S. Marine in June 2025. She
also has a pet ferret named Tilly. Amy has a Ph.D. in Education and a Master’s degree in
English, and has taught at colleges as an English Composition and Rhetoric Professor. Her
hobbies include time with family, reading Alternate History books, watching Documentaries,
spending time outside near any body of water, and most of all, volunteering.
Amy’s passions include her love for God, her Family, and her Country. Her patriotism started
in her youth by shaking the hands of every military member she met and thanking them for
their service. She raised her children to do the same, and they continue this tradition with
every opportunity given. Amy loves to give back to her community and has been
volunteering in different capacities since she was a teenager. She volunteered at a hospital
in her teens, reading to patients and making cards for them. She was the Girl Scout Leader
for both of her daughters’ troops and has collected donations for a local homeless shelter in
recent years. She has also written letters to Soldiers for over 11 years and worked with the
DC VA office to help Veterans enjoy life again.
The moment Amy’s son said he was joining the Marines, she began studying what that
journey would entail. In that time, she realized just how much information there was and how
much support she needed as a “Recruit Mom” and future “Marine Mom.” After learning
about the supportive and informative MarineParents.com organization, she immediately felt
a calling to volunteer. Amy’s goal is to help members go from a sense of worry and
uncertainty to confidence and excitement with each passing stage of their loved one
becoming one of the Few & the Proud.
