Joyce (Joyce Marie Willcox) from Las Vegas , NV
Marine
and
Joyce is originally from Oklahoma (GO SOONERS) and has lived in Las Vegas,
Nevada since December 1980. She met her husband, David, at church and they've
been
married since August 8, 1988. They have 1 son, Jonathan, who graduated high
school in May 2018 and graduated from Marine Corps Boot Camp San Diego Delta
Company on January 11, 2019. Joyce comes from a line of family who were
Marines, Air Force, and Navy; her dad was a Marine for just over 17 years and was
a Gunny
Sergeant at the time he was discharged. Her son Jonathan had been talking about
being a Marine since about the 4th grade and somewhere along the line his mom
and dad knew there was no going back, they knew this is what their son was meant
to do
and did whatever it took to help him get to the point of recruit, Jonathan (with God's
help) has taken it the rest of the way!! Joyce and her husband are the children's
Pastors at their church and during the school year, they run a "Good News Club" on
Fridays at a local elementary school, once a month they do a bounce house &/or
games at nearby outreaches that their church does with one of the many LVMPD
sub-stations. Recently unemployed, Joyce plans to focus more on health, her home
and her
volunteer work with MarineParents, she is also entertaining the idea of possibly
going to
school.
Joyce enjoys planning, traveling, decorating, shopping, meeting new people and
getting to know them and catching up with family and friends. She mostly enjoys time
spent with her husband!
Joyce chose to volunteer with MarineParents as a way to give back. During the time
her
son was in boot camp, she knows she would have felt lost without the volunteers
there
to answer any questions she had and they made her feel at ease with the process.
She
also felt that "connection" with all of her new Marine Corps family!! Her desire is to
be
able to reach out to those who have questions, help them feel more comfortable
with
every aspect of boot camp and beyond and to be there for her Marine Corps family!
