Greetings Marine Families!
If this is the first edition of the MarineParents.com Newsletter you have received, WELCOME! If you are a returning reader we are glad you have joined us. The photo above was taken of Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates presenting a medal to outgoing U.S. Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James T. Conway during a Passage of Commandants ceremony at Marine Barracks Washington in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 22, 2010. Congratulations to General James F. Amos, the first aviator in the history of the Corps to hold the post. Amos is the Marine Corps' 35th Commandant. In this issue you will find a delicious casserole recipe from a Marine Mom, news about the latest PTSD technology, and you'll learn about what's going on with our outreach programs. Thank you for continuing to support our Marines! Semper Fi! |
Gold Star Mom Honors Son
Son's Platoon Will Recieve Memorial Blankets
Photo Courtesy of HamptonRoads.com | Marine Mom Wendy Childers lost her son in August while he was on patrol in Afghanistan. Now she wants to keep his memory alive by sending his platoon care packages with memorial stadium blankets enclosed.
Marine Parents wanted to help her out with this, and we were able to order the blankets for her wholesale so she could get the best price possible. She wanted 350 blankets, each embroidered with "In Honor of LCpl Cody Childers," and we were glad to be able to help her out. Wendy will be including them in packages she will send to her son's platoon in his memory.

Congratulations! | | We're Nearly at Our Goal for the Wounded Warrior Birthday Ball!
A few weeks ago we asked you to help the Wounded Warriors attend their birthday ball, and $9,930 later, we are only $20 away from our goal. What an incredible accomplishment! YOU have made this birthday ball possible for several Wounded Warriors, and their night will be extra special this year because of your generous support.
With only $20 to go, we know we can hit our goal. If you would like to make a contribution to help us reach our mark, click here! |
A Recipe from our Cookbook
Mark's Pineapple Casserole
This recipe came from our very own cookbook, Devil Dog Chow, a collection of recipes from Marine families all over the country. The recipe was named after a Marine by his proud mother. Share it with your friends and family!
Mark's Pineapple Casserole
4 cups fresh cubed bread 2 sticks butter, softened 3 eggs, beaten 20 oz. pineapple tidbits, drained 2 cups granulated sugar
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat until thick and creamy. Set aside. In 2 quart casserole layer pineapple and cubed bread. Pour egg mixture over pineapple mixture. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until edges are golden. Simply wonderful!

Emotional Health Tracking for Deployed Service Members
DoD Announces New Smart Phone App
The National Center for Telehealth and Technology will release a smart phone application that will help service members track their emotional health after they've been deployed, according to a statement by the Department of Defense.
The T2 Mood Tracker will enable service men and women to record and monitor their moods and behaviors when they happen, which will ultimately help their doctors treat them more effectively.
