Helping with the Office Renovation on Saturday, September 19, 2009:
| |
|
Dear Marine Families,
If this is the first edition of the MarineParents.com Newsletter you have received, WELCOME! If you are a returning reader we are glad you have joined us. The newsletter this week is packed with ways for you to be involved as a Marine Parent. There is nothing too time consuming about any part of it, but each action gives you an opportunity to take "Honor, Courage and Commitment" to a new level in support of your Marine and his/her fellow Marines.
This was the last weekend that we worked on our office renovation and it was the first weekend we had a group of Marines here. They came in from MOS Motor T School out of Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, which is about a two-hour drive from here. I can't even begin to describe what an honor it was to be in their presence, working side-by-side with them, watching them give to who we are and what we do. Each of those young men hugged me on the way out the door of our new office Saturday night, thanking me for giving families an opportunity to support their brothers. What a humbling experience that was for me.
(See photo in the bottom article. Great group of Marines!)
So here it is, lots of opportunities for you to support the organization that supports you, that supports our Marines, including the Marines who may not have family members right behind them. What an honor this is. God Bless our Marines!
Please remember to take a look at HR 24 if you've not yet had an opportunity. You can get a recap of the articles on our announcement page located here:

Care Package Sponsors
We've set a new goal and will be sending over 12,000 care packages in the next year, starting with our Marine Corps birthday boxes this coming October 31. We want our Marines to have care packages from sponsors in all 50 states!
We're challenging each state to come up with monthly sponsors for 20 care packages each month for the coming year. We've built this page to track the progress over the next year.

MarineParents.com, Inc. Attn: Happy Birthday Marine PO Box 1115 Columbia, MO 65205-1115

Gold Star Mother's Day Luminary |
|
Honor Families of Our Fallen this Sunday
When we think of our Fallen Heroes, and the mothers and family members mourning their loss, finding words to express our sorrow can be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
This Sunday, September 27th, is Gold Star Mother's Day. Though words are hard to find, there is something we can do on this very important day of observance.
Join us this Sunday and honor the families of our Fallen Heroes - display a Gold Star luminary.

First Graders "Ask a Marine" Part II |
|
Attention on Deck: The Voice of Our Marines
See Part II of what First Grade children had to "Ask a Marine" below:
Ryan K - Dear Corporal, you do not look like a soldier. You look like a person. Do you eat sand? I want to know. (Teacher - Why would he eat sand?) He doesn't have food! He's in the desert!
Marine responds - Ryan K- WOAH WOAH WOAH! What do you mean I don't look like a soldier?!?! But, Yes. I do eat sand!!! Not because I am hungry, but because when it gets windy the sand will blow in the air and whenever I open my mouth I can taste the sand and feel it on my teeth! It is like candy...except it tastes gross!
My name is Maddie and I'm 6 years old. Will you send a picture of the inside of your bathroom? How do you get your food? And what if you get sick? (What do you think happens when they get sick?) They take a nap and feel better. (What do you think the inside of the bathroom might look like?) It will be dirty... like a porter potty.

Marine Corps Phasing Out Recalls |
|
From Marine Corps Mobilization Command
Marine Corps Mobilization Command (MOBCOM) recently released an email newsletter containing an article about IRR recalls.
The article states, "The Corps has stopped putting Individual Ready Reserve Marines on involuntary orders, phasing out recalls as the active duty force has grown to 202,000."
A little more than 200 Marines who reported for duty in late spring are likely the last reservists to get involuntarily recalled, said a spokesman at Marine Corps Headquarters.

Out of the Warehouse!
It took 8 months, thousands of hours of donated labor, thousands of dollars in donated funding and thousands of dollars in donated materials...
But thanks to so many who have given so much over the past 8 months, we're out of the warehouse and into the new office! We're not completely finished yet but we are in.
We will have a ribbon cutting on October 31st in conjunction with the packing of the Marine Corps birthday boxes. Watch for more information in the October newsletters. We hope to see many of you here!
Photo to the left: These Marines were nothing short of amazing and it was a very fitting end to the weekends of work to have Marines here doing the final work! God Bless our Marines! | |
