Dear Tracy,
If this is the first edition of the MarineParents.com Newsletter you have received, WELCOME! If you are a returning reader we are glad you have joined us.
This is a shortened version of our newsletter. We've been incredibly busy gearing up for the Team Marine Parents™ participation in the Marine Corps Marathon this weekend in Washington, DC and with the fires raging in the San Diego area, our phones are literally ringing non-stop with questions about how this will affect our Marines in California at Camp Pendleton, Miramar, and the recruits at MCRD San Diego. The message boards are hopping with posts from concerned family members.
We've published a page on the website with updated information and links to official Marine Corps websites regarding the fire. This edition of our newsletter will focus on making sure you have the website links to stay up-to-date with this crisis.
We're already getting phone calls and emails from concerned citizens who want to help those affected; we'll update the website with lists of verified organizations that will be helping the families.
Our prayers go out to the teams of Fire Fighters, the organizations responsible for evacuations, and all the families, both military and civilians who will be affected by this tragedy. Let's keep those prayers going. God Bless and Semper Fidelis. |
San Diego Fires |

Official USMC Websites & Updates
As of the publication time for this newsletter, there were two fires reported on Camp Pendleton. The Marine Corps has put plans in place for evacuations and safety of personnel and their families.
We've collected the links to various Marine Corps websites in one location to help you stay informed on the fires in the San Diego area and how that may affect our Marines and their families as well as recruits at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. We've been in touch with the Public Affairs office who assure us we will get information if the fires affect graduation dates for recruits. At the time this newsletter went to press, there were no graduation cancellations.
For updates on the following Marine Corps base locations, please visit the websites as noted:
For ongoing updates published on the MarineParents.com website for all news and/or cancellations related to the fires, please visit:
That page of our website includes links to emergency websites, local news, press advisories, evacuation plans and maps of the fire areas. That page also includes links to discussions on the message board communities to Connect & Share with other families who have concerns and questions.

Marine Corps Marathon |

Team Marine Parents™ Headed for Washington, DC this weekend!
We want to wish our team the very best of luck as they compete in the Marine Corps Marathon and the 10K this weekend. Linda Crooms, our Director of Outreach Services, has published a page on TeamMarineParents.com for you to track the progress of each of our team members. We'll be adding photos as we can get them over the weekend so you can watch our team in "real time" and cheer each of them to the finish line!
Team member and Marine LCpl. Josef Lopez arrived early in DC for some doctor's appointments. Due to a glitch in the airline baggage situation, the wheels to his hand cycle have been misplaced. A new set of wheels have been ordered and should arrive to his hotel by Thursday. LCpl. Lopez is our Marine team member we've been writing about "From Wheelchair to Marathon" over the past 12 months. We need some extra prayers that this situation corrects itself between now and Sunday, the day of the race.
