Dear Marine Families,

If this is the first edition of the MarineParents.com Newsletter you have received, WELCOME! If you are a returning reader we are glad you have joined us.

There are several articles in the newsletter this week that are worthy of passing on to others to share, including a new telephone scam that targets Veterans. Be sure to read the article below and share it with those you know that may be affected.

The coupon at the bottom of the page offers free shipping through October 15 in our Cafe Press Stores. Be sure to check it out!

We're still climbing on the Christie Cookie Charity Giveaway. We won't make number one, but it looks like we'll be able to stay in the top 10 for a $1000 prize. If you've not had a chance to vote, click here to learn how.

The office is busy planning and preparing for the next Care Packages to go out to Marines in Afghanistan and Iraq. We'll be shipping 1100 boxes out on October 31. We'll also hold our ribbon cutting the same day, for the new office and warehouse space. If you're in the Columbia, Missouri area that day, we'd love to see you and share our new office space with you! Click here to learn more.

We still need birthday cards for our Marines! With 1100 boxes going out, we'll need all hands on deck to get that many birthday cards by October 31.  Click here to learn more.

How Does Your State Stack Up?
All-States Care Package Sponsors

All-States Care Package SponsorsThe "Lone Star State" of Texas currently sponsors 13 care packages per month, more than any other state!

Next in line is the state of Michigan with 6 care packages, then California with 5.

We're challenging Marine families and supporters across the U.S. - sign up to sponsor care packages and represent your state! We want our Marines to have care package sponsors in all 50 states.

Choose the number of care packages you can sponsor and decide how many months the sponsorship will last. One package per month, ongoing; three packages per month for six months; it's up to you!

The packages you sponsor will be listed for your state each month until your sponsorship expires. Many states have yet to be represented.

Congrats Texas and thank you for supporting our Marines.
An Inside Look
Purple Heart Hero Support™

An Inside Look at Purple Heart Hero Support™From the West Coast Manager:
Dear Marine Parents,

I would like to say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Oh my gosh, what an evening we had Thursday Night, Sept 24th - we had a full house, filled with Marines, Army and Navy Wounded Warriors!

All the extra tables were set up, every chair was taken and the guys spilled out to every seating space available throughout the Liberty Center!

Barbecued Ribs from Fat Ivor's in Valley Center are always a popular dinner and so good! The only thing left at the end of the evening was a little coleslaw and a few cookies!

Mr. T, manager of the Liberty Room, was there and said that MarineParents.com is one of the most popular attended events held at the Liberty Center every month.

Warning to Veterans
Telephone Prescription Scam

Warning to VeteransThe Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is warning Veterans not to give credit card numbers over the phone to callers claiming to update VA prescription information.

"America's Veterans have become targets in an inexcusable scam that dishonors their service and misrepresents the Department built for them," said Dr. Gerald Cross, VA's Under Secretary for Health.

"VA simply does not call Veterans and ask them to disclose personal financial information over the phone."

Veteran Service Organizations have brought to VA's attention that callers are misrepresenting the VA to gain personal information over the phone.

MarineParents.com, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity. MarineParents.com, Inc. was founded in January, 2003 in response to parents' needs to find information and to have a Place to Connect & Share™ with one another during deployments. Our free online services and connections have expanded to support and educate Marine moms & dads, spouses, families and friends and we'll be offering our 6th Conference in New Orleans in April, 2010. We've helped over 40,000 Marine and recruit families during bootcamp, training, active duty and deployments. We've shipped thousands of care packages overseas to our Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan, sent thousands of prayers and letters to injured Marines and served hundreds of lunches to families caring for their Marines at Bethesda Hospital. You've found a Place to Connect & Share™.
